CFO of the year awards: the impact of digitisation on CFOs

It’s that time of the year again—the CFO of the Year award will be announced at the Historical Museum in Stockholm on 10 November. The theme for this year’s event is: How is the role of the CFO impacted by digitisation?

Chief Financial Officers realise that improved analytics and data management practices are vitally important for future decision-making within their businesses. Over 50 percent of CFOs surveyed in early 2015 by management consulting firms KPMG and EY are being consulted on corporate strategy for these technology investments within their organisations, but that number still needs to grow. Indeed, EY went so far as to say, “No executive should be more concerned about the opportunities and risks digital represents for their business than the CFO.”

Digital is not an issue purely for technology or marketing. Rather, digital disruption is fundamentally changing how business is done and is arguably the defining characteristic of this era.

For businesses as a whole, but particularly for CFOs, digitisation presents both tremendous opportunities to create shareholder value and grow the business, as well as introducing new and unforeseen risks that can put a company’s finances, brand, and reputation in harm’s way.

The CFO of the Year award is based on a study conducted by Accenture to identify success factors in the accounting and finance functions. The sample includes 100 of the largest companies in Sweden that have a turnover of between SEK 5 and 300 billion. A renowned jury, headed by respected business leader Anders Ullberg, judges the best companies and selects the winner of the CFO of the Year award.

The evening will be hosted by noted financial journalist Lennart Ekdal and sponsored by Business World, Accenture, and Anaplan. During the evening, guests will enjoy a seated dinner and an exciting bespoke programme aimed at CFOs that tackles the vital issue of digitisation head on. Will you be there?
