Supply chain leaders from around the world gathered to discuss the transformative future of supply chain management at the Gartner Supply Chain Executive Conference in London. The conference centered around the theme: “Aspire, Challenge, and Transform in a Disruptive World.”
The idea of the “connected enterprise” rang throughout the conference as supply chain leaders discussed how they are looking for ways to better connect key areas of their business. When supply chain, finance, sales, marketing, and operations work from a common data hub, decisions are more informed and effective, enabling organizations to be more dynamic and responsive by giving them easy access to their global supply chain network.
The growing world of digital ecosystems was also discussed as APIs and other digital connectors are enabling collaborations at the macro and micro scale—from global enterprises sharing information to connected toothbrushes sharing information with dentists and insurers.
Other themes included the possibilities that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) can bring to improving supply chain planning as we know it today—“possibilities” being the operative word. As this technology becomes closer to reality, companies should focus on hiring people with the AI and ML skill sets necessary to keep up with changes in the global supply chain.
Finally, the most exciting news of the conference for Anaplan was the announcement of the Gartner Supply Chain Top 15 for Europe,* where many of Anaplan’s customers were recognized as innovative supply chain organizations.
