The world is a very different place than it was two years ago. The global pandemic, the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, and social unrest are among many shifts that have changed how we work, think, and live. These events create new priorities, push innovation to the next level, and ground us in the connection we have to each other and the world.

At Anaplan, connection is at the center of everything we do. It powers our platform, underpins our values, enables our purpose, and transforms our customers’ businesses. It also underscores that doing good for business must include doing good for our communities. Decisions we make as an organization, as employees, and as leaders have a ripple effect on the world around us. We take that responsibility very seriously.

As a values-led and inclusion-based company, I believe our success is not only defined by our business performance, but by our company character. It’s about how we prioritize the success of our customers, employees, investors, partners, and communities. It includes doing our part to leave a positive impact on people, society, and the planet. That is why I’m excited to share the launch of Anaplan’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) program.

Over the last several months, we’ve done a deep dive into our business and operations to understand our most material issues and have identified our impact and opportunities. We’ve organized these insights into three main priorities that make up the framework of our ESG program:

Equity and inclusion

We know that the success of our business is predicated on the success of our employees, and that diverse and inclusive teams are more innovative and perform better. Our workforce metrics and programs demonstrate how we invest in our people to support their personal and professional goals and create a culture where they feel they belong and can contribute their best selves.

In 2021, we hired our first Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Sherika Ekpo. In partnership with our culture team and leaders, Sherika is standing up new strategies and policies that support an equitable and inclusive culture reflective of the diverse global communities where we work, live, and serve. We now have seven employee resource groups and, in the last year, have offered increased flexibility to our employees, expanded our affinity partnerships, and launched new career development opportunities. I’m excited by our progress, but I know there is more work to do. When people feel that they belong, they create strong connections to their work and the people they collaborate with, so we’re making investments to better define, foster, and measure belonging within Anaplan and beyond.

Community and sustainability

Supporting our communities is fundamental to our growth, and I’m especially proud of our commitment to create equitable access to data skills training and job opportunities. We partner with Correlation One to train and mentor people from historically underrepresented communities to become certified Anaplan model builders. We call the program Anaplan for All because that’s truly what it is. It helps to level the playing field for women, people of color, and many other underrepresented communities by providing access to high-demand, high-paying jobs in the data field while giving our customers and partners a turnkey approach to meeting their growing Anaplan talent needs. This incredibly effective mission-driven program delivers opportunities for our communities while supporting the growth of our platform. More than 70% of graduates from our first cohort secured jobs within the Anaplan ecosystem. We’ve welcomed more than 100 graduates to the Anaplan ecosystem and recruitment for the third cohort of nearly 400 fellows that launched recently.

As people return to offices and hybrid work models, we are investing in features and programs that make our workspaces more sustainable. In 2021, we opened a new office in London where 100% of the office’s electricity and gas come from renewable sources and 100% of waste is diverted away from landfills. There is always more work to do in this space. We are committed to data-driven measurements and aligning with science-based targets as we define our plan to reduce our carbon footprint and manage our environmental impact.

Trust and integrity

The trust of our customers, partners, and employees is paramount. Trust means that our platform is secure, our customers are protected, our employees’ privacy is prioritized, and we operate ethically and make decisions with the upmost integrity.

Customers trust us with the data that drives their business forward, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our platform is as protected as it is agile, with best-in-class security, data privacy capabilities, and compliance built in. Our customers can securely access our platform from any device and confidently incorporate proprietary data into plans and forecasts so that their business can respond to changing business dynamics in real time. We are audited by independent organizations and are compliant with global and regional requirements. More details about our security and data privacy practices and certifications can be found by visiting the Anaplan trust center.

Our path forward

The last two years have changed what it means to be a successful company and an employer of choice. Just as the future of work has blurred the lines between personal and professional, modern business is playing a larger, more proactive role in shaping society. I believe that ESG impact will be embedded into every plan, become a core KPI for measuring success, and be a driving factor in how companies assess opportunities and risks in various scenarios. We are in the early stages of our ESG journey, and I look forward to sharing more about our progress as we work to create a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future for all.
