Mitsubishi Electric UK relied on manual, spreadsheet-based purchase-sales-inventory [PSI] processes to manage customer demand for heat pumps in the UK, but the process was slow and error-prone. Moving to Anaplan for demand planning, supply planning, and procurement enabled greater supply chain collaboration, supported decision-making, and accelerated response to change — all of which helped ensure that the company’s products are available when and where customers need them.

The flexibility of Anaplan is one of the main benefits for us, from a demand planning perspective.

Geoff Gelbier, Mitsubishi Electric UK: Having the right product in the right place at the right time is essential for all businesses to be cost effective and satisfy customer needs.

Mitsubishi Electric are a market-leading air conditioning and heating company. Our vision is to support the low carbon future by helping our customers reduce carbon emissions through our products.

As a heat pump producer, Mitsubishi Electric has been trying to keep up with the demand of heat pumps within the UK. The challenge for Mitsubishi was the PSI [production-sales-inventory] process was a manual, spreadsheet-based process which took us a long time to put together. It was open to manual errors, and we were looking for something that could both speed up the process and give us more accuracy.

Aamir Hayat: We use Anaplan in demand planning, and in supply planning, and in procurement. With the help of Anaplan, we will be able to implement S&OP. It will be a better collaboration between different departments in order to gather data and have better insights which will be actionable for us. Which means that we are having the right stock at the right time in the right place for the customers.

Geoff Gelbier: The flexibility of Anaplan is one of the main benefits for us, from a demand planning perspective.

Aamir Hayat: You can customize it, you can tailor make it for you. And that is the best part:  Either you go with the system recommendation, or you go with the plan recommendation.

Geoff Gelbier: Statistical forecasting capabilities that it has, and the chance to allow us to flip from one scenario to another, which is really important with the government legislation changes that are happening at the moment. And that enables us to look at things in a different way from where we’ve been in the past. It’s really exciting to see where this product takes us.

Aamir Hayat: I am Aamir Hayat, Demand Planning Manager at Mitsubishi Electric.

Geoff Gelbier: I’m Geoff Gelbier, Head of Supply Chain at Mitsubishi Electric.

Both: And we plan with Anaplan.
