PDS Health is built on the concept of medical-dental integration. In the United States, the PDS vision of medical and dental care as an integrated healthcare practice has enabled PDS to grow to 1,000+ healthcare offices and 5,000+ clinicians in 24 states.

“At PDS, our mission is to create happier and healthier patients for life,” explains Zach Greenweller, Senior Finance Manager at PDS Health. The company’s finance team serves that mission by reducing offices’ administrative burden, enabling healthcare professionals to spend more time with patients.

But in an integrated medical-dental practice, back-office tasks like gathering, consolidating, and analyzing data to optimize operations take on new urgency. As PDS Health grew, its legacy financial planning and analysis (FP&A) tools required increasing time and manual effort to operate and maintain.

Everything on a single pane of glass

Greenweller and his colleagues chose the Anaplan platform to reinvent FP&A for PDS Health. “The first thing that we transitioned from a legacy system to Anaplan was annual budgeting,” recalls Greenweller. “That went really well.” Based on that success they migrated monthly and quarterly operating reviews to Anaplan, and the company’s compensation team adopted Anaplan to track incentive compensation for operators and support team members.

With Anaplan, operators at PDS Health’s 1,000+ sites enter key information directly into the solution during budget season. The data is automatically aggregated across the company’s hierarchies. Automation in Anaplan also reduces manual data integration tasks. “We’ve simplified our processes by using APIs to pull data directly into the system,” Greenweller explains. “Our operators get all the information that they need on a single pane of glass.”

Less administration time, more patient time

With real-time data and automated financial processes on the Anaplan platform, PDS Health has streamlined budgeting and enabled financial visibility company-wide. “Now, with Anaplan, as soon as an end user puts in an input we can immediately see how that impacts our total company,” says Greenweller. Thanks to what Greenweller calls “synergies as you scale,” PDS Health can expand its number of offices without significantly increasing the central finance team.

Ultimately, that enables PDS Health to deliver better-quality healthcare efficiently. “Anaplan is allowing us to do that by reducing the amount of time that our operators have to spend on their administration activities,” Greenweller says. “They can spend that time talking to the patients.”

At PDS Health, we use Anaplan to support our finance and incentive compensation teams. Anaplan has really helped our finance team improve the connectivity between our organization and our operations teams in regards to annual budgeting and monthly and quarterly operation reviews.

In the past, we used legacy systems that would require us to export data into spreadsheets, transform, aggregate up through our hierarchies. Now, with Anaplan, as soon as an end user puts in an input, we can immediately see how that impacts our total company, how that impacts the region.

Whenever we evaluate moving something off of our legacy systems, the question always comes up: “Can we use Anaplan?” Because it’s such a customizable tool, it can really be used for many different things.
