How Anaplan is Helping Model Builders Thrive in the Next Normal
New platform innovations enable teams to model complexity, communicate effectively, and deliver stronger insights to decision makers
Over the course of the pandemic, leaders around the world have been forced to shift direction rapidly, toss their assumptions out the window, and plan on the fly to address change happening on a sometimes-hourly basis. In a matter of days, I think we all learned the critical importance of strong scenario planning capabilities and found the words ‘model’ and ‘modeling’ become common parts of our vocabulary.
Since then, we’ve seen corporations, healthcare systems, and government agencies alike rely on complex models to help them react, respond, pivot, and react again. Models have been used to track, analyze, and predict everything from infection rates, closures and re-openings, remote work plans, and shifting consumer preferences, to PPE supplies, shipping and logistics disruptions, and a global vaccine rollout.
With an organization’s ability to thrive tied so closely to the insights they gain from quickly analyzing and acting on their data, forecasts, and plans, it’s no surprise that the role of the model builder has also been elevated to new heights over the past year. We’ve seen model builders create, adjust, and analyze more scenarios than ever before, with more complexity, change and unknowns, all at a rapid and unrelenting pace. And the work isn’t done.
Organizations are reinventing themselves in preparation for whatever environment lies ahead, which means model builders are developing and analyzing a whole new set of nuanced scenarios. These new models will help leaders turn pandemic-driven change into an opportunity to compete in new markets and drive future performance, meaning the pressure is once again on for model builders.

That’s why we are so excited about the platform innovations we are introducing today which enable model builders to gain new levels of data visibility, derive deeper insights, model greater complexity, and deliver more actionable, real-time reports to decision makers—unleashing new levels of agility to drive more business opportunities.
These new innovations include:
- Management Reporting
Enriched reporting capabilities that deliver in-depth performance insights so model builders can easily build report pages that help business users transform complex data into dynamic and structured reports with visual narratives. Designed with simple drag-and-drop layouts, users can build customizable reports with real-time data and share in-depth insights with key decision makers in a clear, consistent format that will help drive faster decision making.
New Modeling Experience
Designed to enhance the model building experience, these new capabilities increase accuracy and speed efficiencies, allowing model builders to do what they do best, faster. The New Modeling Experience delivers a sleek new look and feel along with an intuitive formula editor to easily read formulas and improve accuracy. A streamlined navigation allows modelers to quickly access the screens and objects, switch between models for a smoother experience, and quickly iterate on models as their organizations evolve.
New Collaboration features help users stay even more connected to plans and work together across devices in real-time. An Anaplan Slack integration allows users to share pages directly with colleagues and tag one another with mentions for quick communication. New notify actions support effective communication across models and workspaces in remote and hybrid work environments by guiding colleagues when it’s time to act and reducing feedback loops.
Expanded integrations to additional cloud services, including Azure Blob and Google Big Query give model builders access to a wealth of data, as well as added intelligence capabilities to create more predictive forecasts and deliver more accurate, informed insights and analysis. Later this month we’ll also introduce a new model-to-model import capability which will enable all CloudWorks users to automatically move data from one model to another based on a specific schedule.
